Gratitude is one of my most favorite topics. Gratitude is something I’ve been taught about since a young child, at home and at church. Yet, in the last few years, I’ve really researched the science behind why a grateful heart brings joy. There is so much evidence that shows that gratitude increases our joy and happiness.
Gratitude is not just something we celebrate on thanksgiving. We don’t just make a list of things we are grateful for in the month of November. To access the full happiness available to us, we must practice gratitude regularly.
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.” -Melody Beattie
I don’t know about you, but I could definitely enjoy a “full life.” Do you ever struggle feeling like you are not enough? Me too. Being thankful for what we have will help us to realize that we ARE actually enough, just the way we are!
I keep a journal next to my bed and have written what I am grateful for on occasion, sometimes it is every few months. I love going back and reading what I wrote years ago. Sometimes, it’s that I’m thankful for orange pumpkins and other times I write about my mom and all that she sacrifices for me.
Challenge yourself! 30 Days of gratitude. Start the first of the month or start right now. But I promise your live will feel better if you focus on specific things to be grateful for.
