Tender Mercies in a little Leaf!

January 22, 2015

One morning last fall, I was having a particularly
trying morning.
Kids were cranky.
I was cranky.
I was fighting with my kids
over things like putting on clothes
and brushing hair
and brushing teeth.
Why do we have to fight about it?
Just do it!

Nothing seemed to be going in my favor.

It had rained all night.
As I walked out my front door,
there on the ground was this
perfect little heart shape
formed by the water around this leaf that was on the ground.

At that moment,
my heart was full!
I knew that Heavenly Father
was watching over me.
This little tender mercy was sent to me
as a reminder that we all struggle.
I felt in that moment
that I was loved by my Heavenly Father.
And he knew that I loved my children very much.
We each make mistakes.
We lose our temper.
We get agitated.
We act like we are 5 when we know we should be the grown up.

I felt so strongly that I
need to have patience with myself.
Heavenly Father forgives me
and even more
he is there to help me if I just
It is amazing what happens
when you start to pray
to understand how you can help
each of your children individually.

My one parenting style
doesn’t work the same for each
very different individual in my home.
I am grateful that I can
ask someone with so much more knowledge than I
to give me insight into each of my kids.

What I learned…
God loves me and my children
He knows my everyday struggles
have patience with myself
I am going to mess up over and over again
but I will never stop trying to be better!

For a Young Women’s New Beginnings
I made little tags for a handout we gave each of the girls.
It was a little jar
wrapped in burlap and lace
filled with skittles.
We tied this quote
and little flower ring to the outside.

The quote reads
Come unto Christ and you will Bloom and Grow.

As I was thinking about this moment
with the leaf on the ground
I realized that this quote
goes perfectly with my goals as a mother.

As a mother,
if I
Come unto Christ
I will
Bloom and Grow
in my skills, in my love, in my understanding.

Here is the printable!
This is a 8×10 copy that I
am going to print and put in a frame in my home
to always remind me of this tender mercy
and I wanted to share it with you.
